Haiku Friday

What is up with this?
Two Thursdays in a row now
Insomnia sucks

Not working today
Wanted to catch up on stuff
Insomnia sucks

Had some chores to do
Blogs to read and posts to write
Insomnia sucks

Don't know what I'll do
If this happens next week too
Insomnia sucks

But for now I'm off
to sleep, I can't stay awake
Insomnia sucks

I wonder who else is having sleeping problems this week?

McDonalds for lunch
DQ Blizzard for dinner
Yum, Yum, Yum, Yum, Yum

But in the morning
I'll be afraid to step on
the scale - so I won't!

Denial is great
But then there's reality
Time to eat better.

Stamp Out Hunger

Get your food ready,
Join us Saturday?

I remember when I was growing up my Mom was 'in charge' of mission work for the homeless in our church. Her job was to find congregants to donate prepared food once a month and also servers once a month. Starting in 3rd grade she took me to the shelter to help serve. It was a shelter for women and children. I stood on one side and served food, often their only meal that day or for days, to kids just like me. Driving home my Mom always told me, "Don't think for a minute they are different than you because they don't have a home. We could be in their shoes in a matter of paychecks, broken bones and a really bad month." She's right. So many of us are closer to being homeless than we think.
When I was a teacher I always had some snack packs and cereal bars in my room. Not for when I was hungry. For my students that didn't have breakfast. Or even dinner the night before. A huge portion of our population doesn't qualify for free/reduced breakfast/lunch for their kids in the public school. But that doesn't mean they can always afford 3 meals a day for their children too. My son knew what the food was for, and eventually figured out which kids it was for too. I have passed on that same speech my Mom raised me with. "Don't think for a minute you can't be in someone else's shoes real fast. It doesn't take much. And you'd want someone to help you and be there for them."
Tomorrow is such an easy way to help. All you have to do is take 5 minutes to look through your pantry for some perishables and take them to your mailbox before your mail carrier comes. They'll make sure it gets to your local food bank.
It's what you would want someone to do if you needed a meal.

Parents are in town
Dad is done with tax season
And needs some time off.

We went to the zoo
Son took the day off of school
Along with my niece

A trip to the park
To enjoy the warm weather
Running and playing

If we are lucky
They will babysit at night
A night out for us!

Head over here to play!

Haiku Friday

It's Friday again
Another week has gone by
Now it's the weekend.

Sounds like complaining?
Or maybe even whining?
Oh no, not at all.

The week was OK
Working and parenting stuff
Cleaning, paying bills.

Juggling the schedule
When to do what and then how
The ups and the downs.

But I wouldn't trade
It's what I've always wanted
To be a Mommy.

Balancing it all
The challenges and the joys
And the best of all:

When tucking in Son
at bedtime and him saying:
"Mommy I Love You!"

Field Trip today
about 100 4th graders
trip is 12 hours long.

What was I thinking
when I volunteered for this?
am I that insane?

Be at school at 6
herd sleepy kids on the bus
for a three hour drive.

A three hour drive?
Yup - destination that far
Williamsburg, VA

Jamestown and Yorktown
two important sites of our
American past.

Three hour drive home
back to school by 6pm
boy I sure to hope
/
Everyones parents
pick up their children on time
because I'm going

To a girls night out
Mommy Needs A Glass of Wine
and wow, I'll need one!!

Spring break is this week
early, but so is Easter
one week with no school.

Kid is home all week
Playstation, Wi and DS
playing with his friends.

How did we grow up
without this entertainment
in our daily lives?

My son is in awe
that to change a channel we
walked to the tv!

Spring is finally
showing its colors and warmth
after cold winter

Time to put away
all mittens, scarfs and snow boots
until next winter

The sounds of children
laughing and playing outside
enjoying the sun

On my review blog
you'll find three great books to see
Don't be shy, go there!

Taking glasses off
to clean both of the lenses
crack, snap, broke in half.

Wearing sunglasses
sure is better than nothing
for the time being.

Ice storm overnight
All schools are closed for the day
Will doc be open?

Luckily he is
Went in for quick eye exam
Need stronger lenses.

Son has been talking
about blurriness at school
His eyes are checked too.

Sure enough it seems
he needs to wear glasses too
but only part-time.

Pick out some new frames
Walk around the mall and wait
book store and some lunch.

Eye exams and frames
are, wow, so expensive, but
seeing is priceless.

Where has the week gone?
Haiku Friday already!
My oh my oh my!

This morning it seemed
Like last week was yesterday
Time went by too fast.

What happened this week?
Actually, not very much
But here's the run down:

We had an ice storm
Two hour delay for school.
Son was overjoyed.

The evil germs came
And took camp in my body
Strep and sinus - yuck.

Studying for class
And quizes and practicums.
It's hard, but like it.

Working with clients
Slow progress is being made
Which makes all happy.

And now it's Friday
A 3 day weekend is here
Time for family.

Starting with a date
With my wonderful husband
In just one hour.

So off I must go
As much as I love my son
I love date night too!
Head over here to see what others have been up to this week!

Wanting to play with your friends
Instead of with me.

But when the night comes
You come into my bedroom
And still want snuggles.

Snow falling gently
twist, turn landing randomly
blanketing the ground.

Peaceful views to watch
while walking in quiet woods
in my neighborhood.

Two cold, lonely geese
swimming through the icy pond
looking for shelter.

One joyous child
has several snowballs ready
to throw at his friends.
