Twitter

OK. So, before I go into hiding, one more thing. I finally succumbed to Twitter. Got myself all set up with an account. Made a post or two on it. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to 'follow' others, or let people know that I have an account so they can follow me over there too. Because, you know you want to follow me there too, right?

Going Into Hiding

I'm going into hiding this week. Family is coming to visit (yea!), but they don't know I have this. There are people in RL that know about this, but I'm not ready to come out to my folks yet.

And I think that will be a post for later date. Why do we blab and blag our thoughts to strangers, or people we know, or have met via blogging, but yet, there is also a definite line on who we do and don't tell that we blog (for some of us at least).

More Help

And since we're on the topic of finding lost things, can someone, PLEASE, help him find the box of tissues? WHAT do boys have against using tissues instead of just snorting it all back up where it came from?!?

Knock Knock?

Knock knock. Anyone home?

Yea, I'm here.

Oh really? Wouldn't know - you haven't been posting lately.

Sorry about that. Ya know how you have those weeks that are just busy?. And you're not even sure why it's been so busy? Nor can you recount what made it so busy. But it was just busy?

Sure.

Well, that sums up last week.

So, does that mean you'll be back this week?

Sure do hope so! Check back soon and you'll see for yourself :)

Summer Vacation Is Put On Hold....

Apparently it's not so cool to have summer vacation after all. This thought would be after observing Son throw himself on the floor, screaming and tantruming for 30 minutes on Saturday stating "I hate summer, I hate this place, I hate this world, I want to go to summer school, I need to be back in school" among some other statements.

The antecedent to this share of emotions? Me telling him "You have 10 minutes until it's time to get ready for TaeKwonDo." And he melted. Could.not.handle.it..

I've noticed an increase in rigidity, persevering and decrease in wanting to play with the neighborhood kids in the past 3ish weeks. Instead of making Star Wars ships with his Lego's he's been making patterns with the blocks - mosaics he calls them. All this was expected. Transitioning from school to summer is a huge transition. But he was also excited about summer this year. His increase in the ASD behaviors wasn't really severe compared to what I've seen before.

And then with the conversations we had on Friday afternoon, I thought all was going to be OK in the transition to summer.

And ya know what, I think it still will be. After making him go to class (and sticking with his original decision to go and get some structure back into his day) he was fine. And he has been fine all day today. Although not very proud of him while he was throwing himself on the ground repeatedly like a toddler on Saturday, he's pulled himself together and is moving on. Enjoying summer as he should. I'm sure we'll have some more bumps on the roads as he completely adjusts, but when thinking back to years past, wow he's come a long ways!.

Summer Vacation Has Begun!

Today, after picking up Son from his last day of school we stopped at the local Pet Store to get some crickets for his Leopard Gecko. After getting home he rushed upstairs. I called him down to take care of the crickets.

"What is it Mom? I'm wasting precious time!" he said after coming into the kitchen.
"Precious time? Precious time doing what?" I asked.
"Precious time of my SUMMER VACATION!" he exclaimed.

After taking care of the crickets he announced that he was heading back up to his room to play with his Lego's and to please not disturb his summer vacation (Said nicely).

Summer Vacation has begun!

A Special Kiss

Son and I have a bedtime ritual that involves 'special kisses'. Ever since he was an infant I have kissed him goodnight on the same spot on his cheek. I don't remember how this started, but we call it 'my special kiss'. Son returns the kiss to me too.

Last night when we were doing 'special kisses' he started kissing my cheek repeatedly. When he was finished he asked, "Did you recognize that pattern Mama?" I didn't. So he told me the pattern.

"It's I love you in Morse Code!" he told me.

Now, THAT is a special kiss.

Walking

This past Saturday I braved the heat with some of my fellow DCMetroMom friends for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. By brave the heat I mean there was a 100+heat index that day, and although the walk started at 8:15, the heat and humidity had long since set in over the city.

But ya know what? It's OK. So I sweated for a morning. That's nothing compared to what survivors and those honored and their families have gone through. It really hit me, walking that morning - seeing those with survivor shirts on. Seeing those carrying signs in memory of loved ones.

And, of course, it always help to walk with friends. Thanks to Andrea, Devra, Leticia, Stimey, Linda, MamaBird, Julie, Sandie, Jessica, Jodi, Nancy and Jess for the great conversation. And also thanks to Kristen for providing our own t-shirts - boy did they help in keeping track of us in the crowd! Thanks for Jess for coordinating us. And wow was eating at Hawk and Dove a great idea - thank to Jess, where we ran into Sarah who was walking with her family. We missed Susan, Suzie and Mary who did the sleepover though! I can't think of a better group of friends to do some good for women with :)

Martial Arts Saturday

On Saturday, from 8am till 7pm it was all about martial arts.

My Son and Husband are black belts and on Saturday they competed (and hubby judged) at the

Super Challenge 2008 Tournament. Son picked up two more trophy's to add to his collection (1st in sparring, 2nd in musical forms), and Hubby also picked up 2 more trophy's to add to his collection.

About mid afternoon we left to continue our martial arts themed day.

After waiting entirely too long for a metro train, we finally made it downtown to the Kung Fu Panda event, sponsored by Kung Fu Panda and Hewlett-Packard at the Zola Restaurant/International Spy Museum.

Now, I've never been to an event promoting a movie, so I really had no expectations. So, it was probably easy to impress me, but, really, I think the folks coordinating all this did a great job. The first room we walked into had food. Lots.of.food. Different tables with different themes, pasta, meat carving, desserts. Then, after going up a couple of stairs you were in the activity area. Face/hand painting, play do, origami, dancing, arts and crafts, snacks, picture taking with the panda (with an extremely easy to use and cool picture printer), and my son's favorite - the video game. I really liked how there were activities for all kids ages. The set up made it easy to mingle and still keep an eye out on my son. (which, really, put him in front of a video game and chances are pretty nil that he's going to move away from it).

I had plenty of time to chat with my friends from DC Metro Moms, got to meet some new Moms, some husbands and kids. I think my hubby had a decent time too! I know my Son did.

At closing time, we left, headed home and crashed for the night.

PS - the video game in the gift bag has done wonders in the bribery department - thanks!
PSS - we can't wait to see the movie this weekend!

The Beginning

of my week so far:

7:50 Drop Son off at school
8:00 Put gas in my car
8:05 Pull gas nozzle out of car and gas sprays all over my shirt, arm and face
8:06 Proceed to drive home as fast as I can to clean up and change
8:15 Call client's house to let them know I will be late, only to find out they have cancelled for
the week
8:20 Decide to drive down to office to turn in payroll paperwork since printer died last night
(the one that is about a month old)
8:55 Standing in line to deposit paycheck and somehow manage to get the gum I was
chewing in my hair
1:30 Despite completely changing my clothes and taking another shower I still can't get the
smell of gas off me

This better not be a sign on how my week is going to go
