Going Pink

One of my New Year's resolutions it to help others more. Whether it's holding a door for a stranger behind me, going greener to help us all live in our environment or helping a cause that is important to my friends and myself.

Yesterday we decided that the vacuum cleaner we had died. We could no longer be in denial. It was dead. It was time for a new one. So off to Target I went.

I'm not really picky about vacuum cleaners. This time I ended up with a Dyson. And it's pink. It's pink because Dyson is contributing a portion of the sales to help fight Breast Cancer. And you know what? I feel like I've already made a difference this year. A small difference, but a difference none the least.

And I chose to go pink because of my friend WhyMommy and all the great stuff she's doing to raise awareness. I don't like to vacuum. Who does really?!? But now when I am vacuuming with my pink vacuum I am hopeful that someone else is also able to vacuum because they too are a survivor thanks to awareness and research. And the fact that someone else IS vacuuming because they are survivor is something to be very thankful for. Because if they are vacuuming, they are also living.

Walking

This past Saturday I braved the heat with some of my fellow DCMetroMom friends for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. By brave the heat I mean there was a 100+heat index that day, and although the walk started at 8:15, the heat and humidity had long since set in over the city.

But ya know what? It's OK. So I sweated for a morning. That's nothing compared to what survivors and those honored and their families have gone through. It really hit me, walking that morning - seeing those with survivor shirts on. Seeing those carrying signs in memory of loved ones.

And, of course, it always help to walk with friends. Thanks to Andrea, Devra, Leticia, Stimey, Linda, MamaBird, Julie, Sandie, Jessica, Jodi, Nancy and Jess for the great conversation. And also thanks to Kristen for providing our own t-shirts - boy did they help in keeping track of us in the crowd! Thanks for Jess for coordinating us. And wow was eating at Hawk and Dove a great idea - thank to Jess, where we ran into Sarah who was walking with her family. We missed Susan, Suzie and Mary who did the sleepover though! I can't think of a better group of friends to do some good for women with :)

Tomorrow

Tomorrow will be a typical day for me. Sort of.

Tomorrow I will have something else on my mind. Someone I'm thinking of. Someone I know from DC Metro Moms and although we have never personally talked, we know bunches about each other because of the blogging world.

Because of the blogging world, you to can read her story. Her honesty. Her fears. Her dreams. Her reality. Her life with IBC.

Tomorrow will be a typical day for me. But not for WhyMommy. And because of her bravery she will have lots of tomorrows.

To do what we all want. To see our kids grow. To fall in love over and over again with our spouse. To live.
